The alien porn book making TikTok horny is deeply satisfying

You can't trust anything on the internet until Mashable tests it first. We review viral trends and tell you which ones are truly worth millions of likes with the Hype Test.

People initially read the aliens-with-a-breeding-kink porn book currently going viral on TikTok as a joke.

Once we saw several sex scenes with a hot, seven-foot-tall horned blue alien simp whose tongue was ribbed for her pleasure, well, then we stopped laughing at Ice Planet Barbarians. Between going through the 22-volume erotica series in one day and following it up immediately with another, that ironic laughter became a primal moan.

Surely you're curious about Pearl before the pearl-clutching begins. It is after all this article that you clicked on, isn't it?

It wasn't until May of 2021 that Ruby Dixon's self-published adult sci-fi romance got the glowing review of a lifetime. A surprising source provided it. Fans forced friends and significant others to read it via memes and videos on BookTok, a corner of the social media app for the bookish. The book was free with Kindle Unlimited, so I had nothing to lose. At least you'd get more of the #BookTok in-jokes about Ice Planet Barbarians even if it wasn't your thing.

#BookTok has proven time and time again that it is a force to be reckoned with in the publishing world with its 16.6 billion views (and counting). A Court of Thorns and Roses, for example, has enjoyed unprecedented sales growth years after its release as a result of this subgroup. A great podcast episode on the overall phenomenon can be found on Slate's ICYMI podcast, which I was alerted to.

Having recently written an article regarding why the Shape of Water fish monster is okay, I was ready to ignore this particular thirsty internet trend as "just not my thing."Ice Planet Barbarians was a step too far for me, given that I developed my sexual awakening from smutty Harry Potter fanfiction and the 18+ Anita Blake Vampire Hunter books (in which the protagonist is prone to sleeping around every few hours)..

My dear reader, I felt I needed to see if the hype surrounding #IcePlanetBarbarians really was worth the 44.3 million TikTok views for your sake. I told every hipster I asked if they stocked Ice Planet Barbarians on the street, before quickly explaining it was a TikTok thing when they said, "No" with a distressingly confused smile on their face.." As One TikTok from an Oakland Barnes & Noble revealed, despite the book being requested by "everyone and their mother," big chain stores have still been reticent to stock it.

As outlandish (or even repulsive) as it might sound, I'd have to say that I've never had sex with a human man that's as satisfying, caring, loving, or consent-conscious as the erotic fantasy Dixon sets up. Dixon's experience is as much an indictment on Earth's cis heterosexual males as it is an affirmation of his character.

A 22-year old Florida girl is abducted in her sleep alongside 12 other girls, only to be treated like cattle by an intergalactic gang of smugglers (or traffickers - it's unknown what their purpose is). A cargo spaceship they're caged in crashes on an icy planet with two suns when something goes wrong, and the women are faced with a whole new set of terrifying unknowns.

I am not only talking about the wildly titillating fantasies. Porn With Some Plot is fanfiction's equivalent of smut. With in-depth stories of romance, humor, and porn (as well as sci-fi), Dixon expands the boundaries of a genre that is too often restricted to more male-dominated interests.

Despite the illicit kinkiness of the premise, their relationship is rather wholesome and uplifting. Even a girl from Florida and a literal alien barbarian can find enough common ground to make each other laugh multiple times, maybe two humans with different political ideologies can also achieve some common ground (LOL who am I kidding? That's an even less believable fantasy).

In this clip, a 20-something woman teaches the hulking hunter alien how to kiss. In addition to touching each other non-sexually, Georgie and Vektal learn which parts of the body and what kinds of sensations bring them the most pleasure (similar to what mindfulness encourages). I find that much nicer than the usual reply one gets from the average male in real life who treats the vagina as if it were some strange alien part of his anatomy he's not even interested in learning how to handle.

What makes it acceptable in pop culture to imagine a 150-year-old vampire watching his underage love interest sleep (first without her consent) - in a relationship where the main source of sexual tension is his uncontrollable urge to slit her throat and drink her blood. There is also a wholesome subcommunity of TikTok fans that isn't being shamed by me. It is hypocritical to describe fantasizing about sex with a twin stimulation cock equipped with consent-conscious humanoid aliens as "weirder" than doing so with a sparkly vampire virgin who has left his partner covered in bruises following coitus.

I also love how people are unconcerned about justifying their pleasure in front of the skeptical and judgmental around Ice Planet Barbarians and the TikTok community spun around it.

Having High Brow Literary Feminist Morals is not essential to the series, because there is also inherent value to something that brings this much harmless fun and joy to many women (though there are plenty of male fans, too). Unlike literary snobs or the generic sci-fi genre fans (often male), it's a book that tries to avoid gaining the approval of those who would see it as a product of the genre while quietly ignoring anyone who would buy it.

BookTok is a community of people who don't feel guilty about their pleasures. Yet Ice Planet Barbarians continues to be the kind of title you must permit yourself to pick up. The next time I return to Barnes & Noble and ask for the second book with the sexy blue alien on the cover, I will be holding my head high.
