Apex Legends: Emergence Patch Notes

We will discuss the new Legend, Weapon, Map Updates, Ranked Arenas, and more with some of the designers behind the Emergence update!

New Legend - Seer

As a Legend, Seer is able to spot opportunities other Legends may miss and seize them in the most beautiful way possible with the help of microdrones. Below are some images of him using his kit.

Passive - Heart Seeker

You can hear and see the heartbeats of nearby enemies when you aim down sights to find out where they are. Even without a weapon, Seer will be able to "ADS."

Tactical - Focus of Attention

A focused, delayed blast from microdrones then reveals enemies (and their health bars! ), plus they are hampered in their activities.

Ultimate - Exhibit

Using microdrones, you can track enemies inside a sphere or see their footsteps when they move quickly or when they fire.

Class Passive: Recon

The location of the next circle can be determined by scanning survey beacons.

Map update

Apex legends

On World's Edge, the Harvester has been busy mining aggressively for months, causing the land to be overmined, overburdened, and pushed to its limit. Nature is reclaiming what's hers by splitting and erupting the earth. Using weather-controlling technology, Hammond attempts to limit the damage they caused by cooling the surrounding area rapidly to subzero temperatures and stabilizing the caldera by using the Lava Siphon. As you navigate the constantly moving gondolas of Climatizer and Lava Siphon, show everyone what Legends are made of as you traverse the bubbling lava with caution!

New weapon - rampage

apex legends patch

The Rampage LMG is Rampart's latest offering and makes no effort to keep its cool. A heavy ammo LMG that packs a powerful punch but takes its time. With a slow firing rate up close, the Rampage does well at close range, but it struggles at mid-range. Rampart did not accept weakness, so it managed to modify the internal combustion mechanism of the Rampage to include, what else? It's thermite! Legends can overclock the Rampage's fire rate by loading a thermite grenade into it. It's rampaging!

Ranked arenas

apex legends patch emergency

With the launch of the Emergence update, we’re introducing Ranked Arenas! You begin your journey through Ranked Arenas in 10 placement matches where your performance will determine your initial Match Marking Rank (MMR) and your starting rank. MMR variance is wider initially, so your first 10 matches might be stomp-or-get-stomped until your MMR defines your placement.

Compared to the 20-team Battle Royale, Arenas features head-to-head battles between teams of three, so Ranked Arena Points are more straightforward. This means there are no entry costs or kills that cost APs. It all comes down to winning. It's just the way ranked arenas are set up at the high level.

Quality of life updates

  • Added a new badge: Win Streak. Can you get 2, 3, 4, or 5 wins in a row?

Legend Meta

  • The enemies caught inside Fuse's ring of fire during Motherlode ultimate have now been revealed to Fuse.
  • Knuckle Cluster Tactical explosion duration increased by 100%.
  • Grenadier Passive can be toggled on and off to throw ordnance normally.

Developer's note: Fuse is still struggling. There were two ways we could help him that weren't just "give him more damage." We feel Apex is a gun game first and foremost, so we don't want to put too much damage into characters' abilities.

His tactical approach was the first opportunity we identified. The current version of this tool is not long enough to significantly inconvenience an enemy even when used as a persistent area denial tool. The duration of the door stop is now doubled so you can place one there for a little while and not have to worry about anyone entering the room. Though the duration was doubled, damage per second remained the same. Standing in the flames is not a good idea.

Secondly, his ultimate does not usually facilitate team wins; sure, you can trap enemies within it, but with flames engulfing you, you can't step inside, nor are you able to see any enemies you are snaring because of the flames. Several approaches were considered, but the most straightforward solution was chosen: you get enemy outlines if they stay inside the ring of fire.

  • Reduced the slow after the initial Black Hole pull.
  • A happier medium has been found between the launch values of 9.1 and Legacy.

In hindsight, we determined that we probably nerfed Horizon's speed too much, due to the nerf she received with Legacy. This nerf was reverted instead of completely removing that part of it. We struck a happy medium between the speed at which her gravity lift operated before nerf versus the speed after. This one's hard to communicate with numbers, so I encourage you to try her and give us your feedback.

  • The Death Totem protection can now be seen and heard by other players as soon as it is about to expire.
  • Added a brief slow after being recalled to Death Totem.

  • Gas damage starts at 5, increases by 1 every other tick indefinitely.
  • Cooldown on Tactical has been reduced 25s -> 20s.
  • Ultimate cooldown has been reduced 3.5m -> 3m. Duration reduced from 20s -> 15s.

Dev note: It is dangerous to buff Caustic. The meta is quickly seized by him when he pushes a little too far. The last thing we want is to have him dominant once more after constantly dealing with gas. As a result, we believe the nerf that reduced the gas damage to 5 damage was a mistake. When you don't have to be scared, sitting in gas and taking a few syringes isn't enough. Our scaling model has been switched back. The damage scalability was slowed this time. Rather than increasing it every tick, we're increasing it every other tick. In this case, damage is not capped, but it really is just a theoretical concern. Enemies will generally be dead around the time the gas reaches 11 damage per tick (unless you've been healing). The desired effect here is to make enemies feel a great urgency to leave the gas as soon as possible.

As well, we wanted to be mindful of Caustic's impact on late game circles at the highest level. We were worried about the effects of the Caustic ult since Ring 6 had now slowly closed over 100 seconds. Five seconds have been removed from the duration. His enemies have no way to deal with the ult, which represents Caustic's highest moment of power. 15 seconds is still a substantial amount of time (and with the damage changes 15s is long enough to kill someone) but it should hopefully reduce the frustration of fighting Caustic at the end of the game.

Supply Drop Rotation

Apex Legends: Emergence Patch Notes

This season, the Prowler returns to floor loot while the M600 Spitfire replaces it. This season, the Alternator SMG will also become available in the supply drop, in addition to the Spitfire. Check out how they change below.

Hop Ups

  • The Boosted Loader in this game automatically overloads the next magazine with extra rounds when it is near empty (not at 0). Hemlok Burst ARs and Wingmans can be equipped with the hop up.
  • To make room, the Anvil Receiver and Quickdraw Holster are being vaulted for now.

Fully Kitted Rotation

apex gun

  • Added: Peacekeeper, Rampage, RE-45, Flatline, and Charge Rifle
  • Removed: Wingman, Bocek, R99, Hemlock, and Sentinel

Magazine Attachments

  • Reload speed increase associated with magazines has been moved to the equivalent stock rarity tier.

Dev Note

The most potent source of lootable power is the ammo capacity of magazines for most weapons. They also offered increased reload speeds in addition to capacity. To help increase the value of stocks and spread out the useful modifiers across our attachments, we moved the reload speed buff to stocks.

Stock Attachments

  • All stocks now offer increased reload speed (instead of magazines)
  • Marksman Weapons (30-30 Repeater, G7 Scout, Triple-Take) now take Sniper Stocks instead of Tactical Stocks
  • Sniper Stocks will increase stability and minimize sway when used with Marksman weapons (in comparison to tactical stocks).

Dev Note

Many times, sniper stocks are left to rot on floors until a legendary crackshot comes along and gives them a home. To make Marksman rifles more desirable, we're putting them on them rather than reducing their spawn rates.

  • Now taking Energy Magazines-Mags on the L-STAR work differently compared to other weapons because of the way they interact with ammo. As a result, the L-STAR will be allowed to fire more shots before it overheats, and its heat build-up will be cooled off faster.
  • Now take Barrels for recoil reduction
  • Projectile VFX scale reduced by roughly half
  • First-Person on-hit impact effect intensity reduced
  • Hipfire spread increased

Dev Note

Emergence has made a few changes to the L-STAR. By extending the L-STAR's power into later phases of the game, we've attempted to improve the looting experience. In addition to these attachment additions, the L-STAR is also getting some VFX changes for better combat visibility.

Light Machine Guns

  • Reduced the headshot multiplier for all LMGs from 2.0 to 1.75
  • Increased the limbshot multiplier for all LMGs from 0.75 to 0.85
Dev Note

When random headshots were chunked with a 2.0 damage modifier, LMG spray-and-pray felt a little oppressive. By bringing up limb damage, we're adding back in a little of that headshot firepower. Using massive LMG mags to suppress your enemies remains a valid tactic, we're just smoothing out the peaks and valleys to make it more consistent.

  • Reduced handling time for all pistols by ~10%
  • Raise, Holster, Zoom In/Out time

Dev Note

With the removal of the Quickdraw Holster and reload speed moving from mags to stocks Pistols took a bit of a hit. We’re increasing their base handling but will keep an eye on their performance as we get into Emergence.

Prowler Burst Pdw

  • Time Between Burst increased from 0.2 to .24

Dev Note

Prowler returns to the floor without its trusted sidekick, the Select Fire hop up. Don't let it fool you, it's still a beast.

M600 Spitfire

  • Damage increased from 18 to 19
  • Hip Fire Spread back to season 8 pre-nerf values
  • Purple Mag Size increased from 50 to 55

Dev Note

We've all woken up in the middle of the night with a cold sweat when Rampart with two gold mag spittys chases us on the World's Edge train tracks laughing maniacally while she fires for eternity, right?  Is that right? We'll be able to sleep soundly for quite some time now if we have it. Supply Drop gets its due this season with the Spitfire. The Supply Drop weapon has been nerfed a few times recently, but we still want it to be a desired Supply Drop weapon, which is why we are reversing these nerfs while making it much more difficult to obtain.

  • Reintroducing the Disruptor Rounds which come equipped on a Supply Drop Alternator
  • Disruptor Rounds - Increase shield damage by 40%
  • Disruptor Rounds can ONLY be found on Alternators from the Supply Drop

Dev Note

With its old friend the Disruptor Rounds, the Alternator joins the Spitfire in the Supply Drop. We haven't seen Disruptors since Season 2, but it's still a shield-shredding monster. Make sure you pack an extra bat.

30-30 Repeater

  • Reload speed from stocks is increased.

Dev Note

Even though it can slap, the 30-30 is probably reloading most of the time. In order to address one of the problems associated with running such a heavy rifle, we are adding a buff to the 30-30's bonus to reload speed from stocks.

  • Significantly reduced bolt fire-rate scaling for each rarity tier
  • Base fire-rate remains unchanged

Dev Note

Running the EVA-8 is a forgiving and formidable experience due to its speed. The Peacekeeper, Mastiff, and Mozambique have all been overshadowed by this program, which is the clear winner for many. By making this change, shotguns will be on an equal footing.

  • The audio triggered by players' landing impacts should be louder when they're coming in from a jump pad.
