How to set up a Spotify Group Session

Try creating a Spotify Group Session if you want to listen to a new album or podcast with all your friends who live far away. Spotify announced Group Sessions for Spotify Premium users last year. Users of Premium accounts can listen simultaneously to music or podcasts with up to five friends, regardless of where they are located. Music can be played, skipped, queued, paused, and played by all group members.

Follow the steps below to listen to music at the exact same time as your friends.

Spotify QR codes are found in brown rectangles at the bottom of sessions. By scanning them, users can join sessions. Alternatively, you can share the URL to the group session over a text message by tapping "Invite friends." The computer and speaker icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen will tell you whether someone has joined your group session, but you won't get a notification when they join.

6. To end a group session tap the icon in the bottom left hand corner again scroll down and select "End session."
